For the past 83 years, the Little Red Stocking Fund has provided an opportunity during the holiday season for Children’s Home Society of North Carolina supporters to help bring hope to children awaiting adoption and children living in foster care.

There are many ways you can help us help them.

Get the Conversation Started

Beginning in November, Little Red Stocking Fund supporters will have a chance to add to the “buzz” by stepping out in their own red stockings. The idea is to wear your very conspicuous red stockings when you step out to work, school, church, shopping, community events, or wherever you are headed. When you get the inevitable question—“Hey, what’s up with the red socks?”— you have an opportunity to plug the Little Red Stocking Fund and the mission it supports.

While Children’s Home Society will be orchestrating a series of high-visibility Step Out publicity events to introduce the campaign to the public, we are encouraging community groups and businesses to get involved and generate even broader participation in the “Step Out in Your Red Stockings” campaign.

Make it a Group Effort

Just follow these simple guidelines to get your group involved:

.

  • Decide to use the Little Red Stocking Fund as one of the charitable projects your workplace, organization, group, or family will support this holiday season.
  • Develop your Step Out campaign activity. Keep in mind that Children’s Home Society will be publicizing the Step Out campaign, so there will be general awareness of the campaign for you to build on. For example, you might designate a day or an event during which everyone in your company or group is encouraged to wear socks or stockings. Prior to “Step Out Day,” your colleagues or group members are given the opportunity to pledge an amount they will donate to the Little Red Stocking Fund for every person who Steps Out. Proceeds are donated to CHS.
  • Make sure to send photos and stories about your Step Out activity to CHS and they will be posted on this webpage and on Facebook so everyone can see your support activity.

.

Remember, the goals are to raise awareness of the Children’s Home Society mission and create opportunities for others to donate to the Little Red Stocking Fund… but also to have fun as your group gets behind the ongoing effort to secure for every child a permanent, safe, and loving family.

Help Keep the Buzz Going

An exciting new way you can make a difference is to partner with CHS this holiday season and promote the work of the agency through your personal Facebook page or Twitter account. Talk about CHS, our mission, and the good work we are doing statewide.

Encourage your family and friends to dig deep and give generously.  This is a simple, easy, and fast way you can make a difference this holiday season.

Host a Little Red Stocking Party

In addition to the Little Red Stocking Fund buzz associated with Step Out, you can help make a difference this holiday season in many other ways.

CHS invites you to help promote our cause by connecting your holiday festivities to the Little Red Stocking Campaign. You do not have to do anything special or plan an extra holiday event; simply turn a family dinner or party for friends into a Little Red Stocking celebration by asking them to bring a contribution for CHS.  CHS has invitations, table toppers, and other materials to help you promote our mission.  This is an incredibly simple, easy, and fun way to help protect children and strengthen families across the state.

You can access invitations for your Little Red Stocking party online or you can call 1-800-632-1400 and request for materials to be sent to you.

Make a Gift that Lasts a Lifetime

You can make a difference this year by supporting the Little Red Stocking campaign online, answering the Little Red Stocking holiday appeal you received in the mail in early November, or by visiting a participating retailer and purchasing a Little Red Stocking this season.
