Meet Waiting Children More than 3,000 children are currently waiting for adoptive homes in North Carolina. These children require unconditional love and patience because of prior experiences and circumstances. They may have come from homes where they were abused, neglected or abandoned. These children may have special needs. They may be developmentally delayed or medically fragile, and some have siblings who need to stay together as a family. The need for adoptive homes is great, especially for children over 6 years of age and minority children of all ages.

People ready to adopt are given specialized training to equip them to be successful adoptive parents. Financial assistance is often available for therapy and medical services, based upon a child's needs. There are no adoption fees when adopting waiting children.
