Services for Children

Adoption & Foster Care Placements
CHS has hundreds of loving families who have completed rigorous training to prepare them to parent children in foster and adoptive placements. We train and support foster and adoptive families so they are better equipped to parent children with diverse and challenging needs. CHS offers several different foster care programs throughout the state including infant, family foster care, therapeutic foster care, and respite care.

Child-Centered Recruitment
Children in the Child-Centered Recruitment program become active participants in their recruitment process. This process allows CHS to carefully identify each child’s unique needs and match him or her with a family who can best meet those needs, ensuring the most successful results and working as a part of the child’s multi-faceted adoption team. Our recruitment staff is professionally trained to develop community connections to ensure maximum impact of recruitment efforts, as well as how to use innovative technologies and media.

Waiting Child Television Series
CHS collaborates with four television stations across NC to produce Waiting Child series. The segments air weekly or bi-weekly during prime news time on WECT-Wilmington, FOX-Charlotte, WXII-Winston Salem, and WNCT-Greenville. These series not only promote individual children available for adoption, but they also consistently generate inquires from potential families.

Adoption Chronicles
Adoption Chronicles bring kids to “life” by showing video interviews of children awaiting adoption. These videos combine professional production skills with web-based technology to display children available for adoption in an unbiased and positive way. Professional interviews and streaming video provide a multidimensional perspective of the children increasing their chances for a successful match. Family Finding
CHS has implemented a Family Finding program to help reconnect children with family members and begin to rebuild biological family connections. This model aims to find relatives for children in the foster care system that lack permanent connections to caring adults. It has proven very successful in connecting youth to as many as 50 family members.  Though a suitable relative home is not always found, it is providing children with connections to family and other adults.
