Therapeutic & Post Adoption Services

CHS understands that adoption is a life long process. As a result, CHS has developed a wealth of therapeutic and post adoption services that help ease the issues of adoption over a client’s lifespan.

Supportive Post Adoption Network (SPAN)
CHS established SPAN to provide services to facilitate and support the placement of children from the local foster care system into adoptive families. Children diagnosed with learning disabilities, emotional/mental health issues, behavior concerns, and/or other special needs receive assessment, therapy, and support services to facilitate improved behavior and functioning at home and school. SPAN provides services throughout all phases of the adoption, primarily for families with children whose prior experiences are creating problems.

Alliance Services
CHS provides therapeutic services for children who are preparing to be adopted, children who have been in long-term foster care, and children who may soon age out or who have aged out of foster care. These services are for children ages 3-21 who reside in or live with families in or near Greensboro, Lexington, High Point, and Salisbury. Alliance Services include:

  • Assessment of a child’s strengths and needs
  • Therapy to work on attachment and trauma issues
  • Specialized therapy sessions focusing on birth history; transition and coping skills; and preparation and additions to the child’s therapeutic life book

Post Adoption Support Services
CHS provides post adoption services to assist families at any time during their lives, whether they are a birth parent, an adoptee, or an adoptive parent. Post adoption services include:

  • Review and interpretation of background information
  • Review of medical histories
  • Counseling regarding adoption issues
  • Support groups
  • Workshops and seminars

Confidential Intermediary Services
The Confidential Intermediary Services program allows CHS to act as a confidential intermediary between adult adoptees and birth families. If both parties want contact, CHS will share identifying information with the written consent of the individuals involved. CHS may also agree to act as a confidential intermediary for adoptive parents of a minor adoptee to obtain and share non-identifying birth family health information.
