Therapeutic Services

"Kids: they dance before they learn there is anything that isn't music." William Stafford

CHS understands that adoption is a life long process. As a result, CHS has developed a wealth of therapeutic and post adoption services that help ease the issues of adoption over a client’s lifespan.

SPAN - Supportive Post Adoption Network

SPAN provides special prevention and intervention services that protect the permanency of adoptive placements. SPAN services are primarily directed toward families that have adopted children whose experiences prior to the adoption are creating current problems for the family. SPAN services are available throughout central NC.

SPAN services include:

  • Crisis Management
  • Parenting Strategies
  • Behavioral Management
  • Family and Child Assessment
  • Resource Lending Library
  • Attachment Services
  • Family Preservation
  • Respite Services
  • Information and Community Referrals
  • School Interventions and Advocacy
  • Case Management Services

In addition, SPAN offers specialized training in:

  • Therapeutic Behavioral Interventions
  • Parenting with Love and Logic
  • Parenting a Sexually Abused Child
  • Parenting a Child with ADHD
  • Parenting a Child with Attachment Difficulties
  • Parenting a Child Transracially

Alliance Services

CHS’s Alliance Services provide therapeutic services to children in foster care who are preparing to be adopted, children who have been in long-term foster care, and children who may soon age out of or who have aged out of foster care. These services are for children ages 3-21 who reside in or live with families who reside in or near Greensboro, Lexington, High Point, and Winston-Salem.

The Alliance Services are a unique combination of individual and family counseling. This “one of a kind” combination of services assists both the child and the family in healing form the past and developing a new outlook for the future.
Specific services include:

  • Assessment on child's needs, strengths, and limitations
  • Therapy to work on both attachment and loss issues
  • Work on adoption preparation including birth history, transition and coping skills, and sessions to assist foster and adoptive families in transitions
