Morning Workshop: Resilience-The Biology of Stress & The Science of Hope movie screening and discussion
Resilience is a one-hour documentary that delves into the science of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the birth of a new movement to treat and prevent toxic stress. For those who are already familiar with this research and for those who are not, this screening will provide an opportunity to view the film that is being used in many circles as a discussion-starter about the science of toxic stress, and the steps we can all take to promote resilience and well-being in children. A discussion will follow after the screening.
Afternoon Workshop: Maintaining Professional Boundaries
Those who choose to work with children and families in the child welfare system do so because of a desire to help. This interest in helping others can be an asset, and a risk factor. It is important to ensure healthy boundaries from the beginning of the client relationship, and be able to quickly recognize if lines begin to get blurred. When boundaries between client and helper are not clearly defined, the consequences can range from burnout to ethical violations. Participants in this workshop will identify what is meant by healthy boundaries, evaluate their own strengths and needs in this area, and discuss how to maintain boundaries in their work.
