Caring For Our Own: Support and Training for Kinship Caregivers
Kinship caregivers often step in to support children and youth who for a variety of reasons cannot stay with their birth parents. For some families, kinship care happens when a child comes into the custody of a social services agency. Kinship caregivers who are caring for a child in DSS custody are eligible to receive financial and other supports when they become a licensed foster parent.
This Caring for Our Own group includes additional content that meets the training requirement for licensure in North Carolina. For families interested in being licensed attendance at all sessions is required. All caregivers in the home over the age of 18 must attend.
Whether you are a kinship caregiver interested in making connections with other kinship caregivers, learning about resources, or applying to become licensed, we invite you to join us! The group will meet for ten consecutive weeks, online via Zoom. Kinship caregivers who attend will learn how to assess and build on the strengths and needs of the children in their care, and gain assistance and ideas for working in partnership with the helping network, the children, and the birth parents. Please note that you must have a tablet, laptop, or computer equipped with a webcam in order to join. Unfortunately, it is not possible to participate using a phone.
