Rockingham County Schools "CHS Day of Training"

January 12, 2018 @ 8:30 am - 3:30 pm

Maintaining the Capacity to Care, Part 1: Compassion Fatigue    8:30-11:30 a.m.
Those who choose to work with children and families in the child welfare system do so because of a desire to help. This interest in helping others can be an asset, and a risk factor. It is important to ensure healthy boundaries from the beginning of the client relationship, and be able to quickly recognize if lines begin to get blurred. Participants in this workshop will identify what is meant by healthy boundaries, evaluate their own strengths and needs in this area, and discuss how to maintain boundaries in their work.
 Tackling Tough Behaviors     12:30 – 3:00 p.m.
Caring for a youth with a history of loss and/or trauma can present unique challenges for even the most experienced professional, parent, or caregiver. This interactive workshop will provide professionals with the information, tools, and resources needed to identify and manage difficult behaviors, in order to better support parents and other caregivers. Participants will apply their new skills and knowledge to case examples for practical experience.
