Dad Talk “An Informal Conversation Honoring Fathers & Adoption”

Meet the trainers

Training Facilitator: Walter Johnson, Professional Trainer

Walter Johnson, BA, brings over 15 years of experience working with fathers, children and families in the foster care system. He is a NC Certified Parent Educator and an accredited provider of the Triple P Positive Parenting Program. Walter has had the opportunity to bring his passion for fatherhood to both human service professionals and family members as an educator working statewide under the Permanency Innovation Initiative in North Carolina. This initiative focuses on improving permanency outcomes for youth at risk of aging out of foster care. He is a husband and father of three children, and currently resides in Greensboro.

Parent Co-facilitator: Denton Gerow, Foster and Adoptive Parent

Denton and his wife have been foster/adoptive parents for over 2 years.  They started the process, like many, looking to adopt a baby. Then they learned about the needs of sibling sets, so they opened up their range to 0 to 9.  Then they met their son, who was 17 at the time.  Now their home is open to all ages. They have been able to assist in fostering, transition stay, and respite care for 6 children. They currently have their 19 year old adopted son, plus three foster to adopt boys ages 5, 5, and 7!  Working through all of the various traumas, behaviors, and issues with the help of the Family Education and Support Services, helped prepare Denton to assist in facilitating the Resource Parenting Course.
