Iredell "Maintaining the Capacity to Care"
August 17, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 12:30 pmFree
Compassion Fatigue has been described as the cost of caring. It can be a normal consequence of a career helping others. Child welfare workers have a higher rate of burnout and compassion fatigue than staff in other helping professions and other areas of social work. They are charged with responsibility for children and families who are vulnerable and in crisis. This workshop examines the unique challenges faced by child welfare professionals and others who work with children. It is an interactive training with an emphasis on awareness, connectedness and professional resilience. We will explore aspects of compassion fatigue including how and why it develops, symptoms, and prevention/self-care strategies.
