The Minds of Boys: Helping Our Sons Do Their Best in School and Life
March 30, 2017 @ 4:30 pm - 8:00 pmFree
Children’s Home Society of NC and Iredell-Statesville Schools are proud to announce this special event featuring Dr. Michael Gurian.
Michael Gurian is one of North America’s most dynamic speakers. His presentations are interactive, humorous, insightful and practical. To learn more about him, visit www.michaelgurian.com.
His presentation entitled THE MINDS OF BOYS focuses on four crucial elements of male educational excellence:
- Understanding of the male learning style. This male learning style is a part of the boy’s growing brain and is socialized by a boy’s environment and society.
- Helping schools help boys learn well. Boy energy and boys’ brains crave certain elements of teaching and learning that schools can strategically build into their pedagogy and practice.
- Helping parents and communities ensure good schooling for their sons. Boys need and want their parents, extended family, mentors and other community members to augment the hard work done by teachers and schools.
- Practical strategies and teaching techniques that have been proven to work in schools, classrooms and homes via the action research of the Gurian Institute. These practical steps can be immediately used in your community.
In this presentation, Dr. Gurian shows results of brain scans, focusing on both similarities and differences in the ways boys and girls learn, process emotions, and develop motivation and self-confidence. Providing state-of-the-art research, his presentation is a passionate and practical guide to teaching and caring for boys in today’s complex educational world.
