New Bern "Connected or Scattered? Sibling Relationships in Foster Care"

June 18, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Free

Separation from siblings is often described by former foster youth as one of the most traumatic aspects of their out-of-home placement experience. Child welfare agency staff struggle to find placements willing and able to accept sibling groups, and agency staff and GAL volunteers alike face difficult decisions when advocating for a child’s best interests when siblings are involved, particularly when there are safety concerns.
This training looks at the value of sibling connections, explores some common myths about sibling placement, and looks at ways to support sibling relationships in a variety of placement circumstances.
