Spindale "Keeping it in the Family: Supporting Kinship Care"

Working with families is hard and messy work; yet keeping children connected to family is crucial. The layers of kinship placements can be complicated and require a different approach to partnership.
In this workshop, Participants will learn ways to support, educate, and empower relative caregivers.
• Identify at least three benefits to placing children with relatives or close family friends in kinship
• Name at least two ways in which families are impacted by providing kinship care
• Describe common barriers that exist for children and youth placed in kinship, as well as for the kinship family
• List at least two specific strategies to strengthen efforts to collaborate with kinship families
