Transylvania County "Substance Use to Addiction: Why We Use, Even When It Hurts"
March 11, 2020 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
FreeSubstance use has become increasingly widespread across the country. The use of opioids has been named an “epidemic” both locally and nationally. The child welfare system has been burdened because of continued substance use and addiction. How is it that despite all the devastation and heartache, substance use continues? This training will explore the science of addiction, including the impact of stress and trauma on the brain as well as the use of substances to manage when healthy coping skills are not available. The impact of addiction on individuals and family systems will be addressed.
