Thank You for Making a Difference!

Welcome to Day Two of “Staying at Home with Children’s Home Society of NC: Storytelling through different perspectives.”
There are more children in foster care in North Carolina than any time in the recent past and that number may likely grow as vulnerable families suffer all the hardships COVID-19 brings. Foster families and children in their care are facing unique challenges and additional stress due to the coronavirus impact across North Carolina. As we continue to navigate this rapidly evolving situation, our first thought is the safety and well-being of our families, children, and employees. At Children’s Home Society of NC (CHS), we provide families with the support and resources they need to be a forever family. In these unprecedented times, it is important we come together.
Today, you will meet LaTosha Owens from CHS. LaTosha is one of our Senior Program Directors who leads a program that focuses on identifying a forever family for the longest waiting children in foster care. The program, which we call Child-Focused Recruitment, connects youth with extended family sharing genetic, legal, or social relationships, or an adoptive family that is uniquely suited for the youth. You will also hear from Keyonna, a vibrant 11-year-old whose dream is to be a veterinarian and a part of a loving family.
Last year, 695 children were served last year by our Child-Focused Recruitment program. The children served by this program are three times more likely to be adopted. In this unsettled time when family is so foundational, there are more children who are with families who are providing comfort, reassurance, and security because of Child-Focused Recruitment.
We also know some of our CHS families need extra help right now. And, that is why we have created the CHS Family Relief Fund. 25% of all gifts made via chsnc.org/APlaceToCallHome through the end of April 2020 will be directed to provide help for our CHS families who are suffering COVID-19 related economic hardships. Please consider making a gift today and BE A HERO for these children who so desperately would like to find A Place to Call Home.
Thank you for joining us this week and we hope you enjoy hearing from our team members, program leaders, clients, and partners, and thank you for all you do for CHS and your community.
Be safe and be well.
