This spring, Children’s Home Society will be gathering storytellers from around North Carolina to share stories of family with our community in our annual A Place to Call Home benefit event series.

Our Storytellers

will have the opportunity to work with a professional storytelling coach to craft a story that impacts and inspires our community of supporters.

Selected speakers will present at CHS’s annual event in
Raleigh on April 20, Greensboro on April 27, &/or Charlotte on May 4.

Preparation will include outlining the topic and participating in a series of virtual coaching sessions to occur in February, March, and early April. Speakers will receive, professional coaching, travel expenses, and a stipend.

The Theme?

Family! We believe that family creates the foundation of ourselves, our community, and shapes our future.

Topics to consider sharing around:

  1. What are the lessons family has taught you and how are you a different person because of those lessons?
  2. How do you define family? What does family mean?
  3. How has family shaped your identity?
  4. What role does family play in your community and what do families need to thrive?
  5. What are conventional and unconventional ways families could be supported?
  6. How has somebody else’s family inspired you?
  7. What misconceptions about family are you passionate about?

The Goal

Our storytellers will present a well-formed idea in under 15 minutes, drawing from their personal experience. It can be a simple idea with a lesson that challenges beliefs and perspectives.

It might be a new and surprising twist or it could expose the audience to an issue that they may not otherwise know about. Your presentation isn’t just a story or list of facts but rather, takes your ideas and experiences and draws a larger conclusion.
