Supporter Spotlight: Alpha Xi Delta – Zeta Rho Chapter at NCSU

Valerie Hoyos, Philanthropy Vice President of Alpha Xi Delta – Zeta Rho Chapter at North Carolina State University, shared with Colette Odom, CHS Corporate Philanthropy Specialist, why Alpha Xi Delta partners with CHS to promote the right of every child to a permanent, safe, and loving family.

Alpha Xi Delta’s Connection to Our Cause

The philanthropic focus of Alpha Xi Delta is the Kindly Hearts Initiative which aims to support children experiencing foster care or homelessness. Our connection to Children’s Home Society’s cause is their steadfast commitment to helping families adopt within the foster care system as well as family preservation to ensure that families not only grow but stay together.

Why Did Alpha Xi Delta Decide to Give to CHS?

As a newly established sorority at North Carolina State University, we were looking for a local partner to support on a more intimate level within the Raleigh community. Whoever we chose would become a foundational part of our Chapter’s philanthropy for years to come. After months of searching, we found CHS in Raleigh and immediately knew it was the perfect fit for our chapter and our philanthropy. Our first gift to support the organization was the first of many.

Why Should Others Donate to CHS?

What makes CHS so special is their dedication to educating parents with professional training and using evidence-based programs to establish a real home for children in need. They also recognize the importance of ensuring that older children find a family just as much as younger kiddos. In addition to foster care services, they continue to find new ways to partner with youth with lived experience to amplify their voice to affect positive change.

What does Alpha Xi Delta hope to accomplish through its philanthropy efforts?

Through our philanthropy, as a chapter, we hope to accomplish the greatest impact of benefiting the lives of children experiencing foster care or homelessness. We believe that every child deserves a safe and loving home, and Children’s Home Society plays a critical role in that mission.

What are Additional Ways Your Organization Has Been Philanthropic?

The Zeta Rho Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta has showcased our philanthropy to support our local partner CHS in Raleigh through our annual AmaXing Blue and Gold Gala which takes place over NC State’s parents’ weekend and raised over $18,000 via ticket sales and a silent auction with donated items and baskets. During the month of December, our chapter conducts a Holiday Toy Drive which collects gifts and toys for children and teens to support CHS’s “Hope for the Holidays.”

Our spring semester philanthropy event “Xiti with the Xi’s” brings the Panhellenic community together to dine at our sorority house and enjoy some delicious ziti pasta from Amedos in Raleigh. Ticket Sales from this event raised over $4,000 for CHS. To wrap up the semester we hold a “Back to School Supplies Drive” to gather donated supplies before the next academic year begins in order to guarantee children have the supplies they need to be ready for school in the fall.
